Section outline

  • It was bound to happen...we have arrived at learning about verbs.  Everyone struggles with verbs but they allow you to express yourself beyond pointing and looking perplexed sad

I'll make this as manageable as possible, but it will require memorization on your part.  I'll look for online resources to help you practice verb conjugation, but it is as simple as practicing them aloud.

    We'll cover:

    • more adverbs
    • conjugating regular -ar, -er, and -ir verbs and adding new verbs to your vocabulary (this is likely to most challenging part of learning a Spanish, but it moves you from caveman Spanish to actually conversational Spanish! Wow!!)
    • negating verbs (the more negatives the better - I have never done nothing neither.  Beautiful.
    • asking simple questions with our new verbs
    • new vocabulary with tener and hacer
    • This adverb list is just for vocabulary building.  Adverbs have just one form - no need to agree in number and gender with anything because they have no number and no gender - so you just have to learn them to use and understand them.

    • This is a short list of regular Spanish verbs.  They follow a predictable pattern to conjugate them to use with any subject.  Remember, (1) from the infinitive of the verb (hablar), (2) drop the infinitive ending (-ar), and (3) to the stem (habl-) add the personal endings (-o, -as, -a, -amos, an).  Yo hablo, ellos hablan, mis amigos y yo hablamos, etc.

I have included a few -er and -ir verbs with their personal endings in a chart.  They all follow that same pattern to use: drop the infinitive ending (-er or -ir) and add the personal endings.

Verbs are challenging and require lots of practice! This is a difficult task, but once  you have it figured out a bit, you will be able to understand so much more!

    • This template is available as a Word document and a pdf so you can work with it in the format you prefer.  I have added irregular verbs - some old, some new - that are very useful!

    • This exercise gives you a chance to practice regular -ar verbs.

    • This is a list of just some Tener and Hacer expressions.  Knowing how to conjugate these 2 verbs will allow you to use a bunch of handy expressions.
